Dr Mark Kennedy is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health at King's College London and Programme Lead for the MSc Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health. His research focuses on child and adolescent mental health, neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, behavioural addictions, and the impact of digital technologies on wellbeing. He is a researcher on the English and Romanian Adoptees (ERA) study, one of the world's longest-running investigations of early adversity and development. Alongside his research and teaching, he is committed to making psychological science accessible to the public through education, outreach, and public engagement.

Banning Social Media for Under-16s Won't Solve the Problem
As a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London, I spend a lot of time teaching students about child development, mental health, and the evidence surrounding digital technology use. Recently, proposals to ban social media access for under-16s have gained increasing political support in the UK. The idea is simple and appealing: if social media is harming young people's mental health, remove access and the problem will improve. The ban was put into motion on June 15th.
