About

Harry Smith is a 28-year-old early-career journalist who entered the profession through the disability-focused nonprofit Ability Today, which trains disabled people for careers in journalism. He has written for publications including The Guardian and the Media Diversity Institute, as well as a range of disability-focused outlets, notably covering the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

Living with cerebral palsy and dyslexia has shaped both his journalism and the subjects he is drawn to. Years spent navigating disability, masculinity and performance have left him more comfortable than most with difficult conversations and uncomfortable truths.

Journalism rarely allows space for those experiences to become the story itself. Writing for Inspire the Mind offered an opportunity to articulate some of the observations and contradictions that emerge when disability and masculinity become deeply intertwined.
