About
I’m Hami, an enthusiastic and driven researcher with a deep interest in molecular psychiatry, particularly the epigenetic effects of adverse childhood experiences on the development of psychiatric disorders. I am also the co-founder of Oxford MindMap.
After earning a double BA in Psychology and Sociology (with a focus on Law, Criminology, and Deviance) at the University of Minnesota, I pursued an MSc in Gene, Environment, and Development at King’s College London. I then completed a DPhil in Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.
During my time as a DPhil student, I co-founded Oxford MindMap, a map-based platform that allows individuals to share their personal stories tied to specific locations. The platform’s mission is to destigmatize psychiatric disorders by encouraging people to share their experiences, fostering a sense of connection and normalizing mental health challenges. Through these shared stories, we aim to show that experiencing emotional struggles or living with a mental disorder is not uncommon, and others have faced similar journeys.
In addition to my work as a researcher, I am also a children’s book author. My books focus on promoting mental health awareness among children, covering topics like managing anger, starting the day with positivity, and building strong friendships.
While my primary role is in research, I am equally passionate about promoting mental health awareness and supporting children’s education. These pursuits allow me to merge my professional expertise with my personal dedication to making a societal impact.
