About
Aka, The Wounded Healer.
Ahmed Hankir is an Academic Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, as well as being a Mental Health Campaigner, Researcher and Physician. Being a survivor of psychological trauma himself and having first-hand experience of the stigma of mental health that came with this, Ahmed turned to film, literature and poetry as a source of therapy.
In 2014, he produced ‘The Wounded Healer,’ an anti-stigma documentary which challenges particularly medical students and professionals to confront their responsibility toward their own mental health. The Wounded Healer has become an innovative method of teaching, combining both performing arts and therapy.
Ahmed uses his lived experience and channels performing arts to promote peaceful co-existence and challenging mental health stigma and Islamophobia.
