Megan Plant

Hi my name is Megan Plant! I currently work for Toucan (West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative) where I support with the development of children’s mental health services in the west midlands. I do this by sharing my personal experience of having an eating disorder and how the services could be improved based on my experience.

I was diagnosed with an eating disorder at 14 and my life changed in the blink of an eye. I didn’t know it at the time, but a full recovery was possible. I managed to return to education and am working towards becoming an Adult Nurse in the near future. Since my illness I have managed to rebuild my life, and I continue to make new memories with the people I love.

My drive for educating others on misconceptions around mental health is ongoing. I am passionate about showing the reality of recovery and the challenges that it presents- recovery is not linear and I learnt that pretty quickly. It takes time and the right support for an individual to be able to begin the recovery journey.

That is why I am committed to creating discussions around mental health and the challenges that young people face when suffering with ill mental health.
