About

My name is Francesca and I am a research assistant at the Stress, Psychiatry, and Immunology (SPI) Lab at King’s College London, as well as a writer and assistant editor for Inspire the Mind.

My main area of interest is perinatal mental health, particularly how maternal wellbeing during pregnancy and the postnatal period can influence a child’s development in the long term.

I am also passionate about making science accessible and meaningful beyond academic circles, and writing for Inspire the Mind helps me achieve this by bridging the gap between research and the wider public.

I enjoy writing about a variety of topics—from research and personal interests to world events that resonate with me—using writing as a way to reflect, inform, and connect.

Surprisingly, that wait proved worthwhile: I binge-watched all four seasons in just a few weeks, and now I’m counting down the days until Season 5 premieres on Netflix on December 18th.  However, my enthusiasm is not widely shared, with many strongly dismissing the show for depicting an overly romanticised version of expat life.  As an Italia

Why is Representation Important for Young People with Scoliosis?
When the toy company Mattel launched the first-ever doll with scoliosis and a removable back brace a couple of years ago, I must admit I was genuinely and positively surprised. I was even more impressed when the global fashion retailer ASOS featured models with scoliosis in their e-commerce photos, boldly showcasing their visibly curved spines and post-surgery back scars. Although my own journey with scoliosis — including years in a back brace and a spinal surgery — is now well behind me, I f
